Alok Bhalla is a widely published critic, translator and poet. A retired professor, he has been a Fellow at the Institutes of Advance Study at Nantes (France), Bellagio (Italy), Shimla and Gandhi’s Sabarmati Ashram (India). His books include Stories About the Partition of India (4 volumes), Partition Dialogues (interviews with major Indian and Pakistani writers) and Life and Times of Saadat Hasan Manto; translations of Intizar Husain’s A Chronicle of the Peacocks, Story is a Vagabond, and Day and Dastan. He was elected to the Executive Council of the Sahitya Akademi (India’s Academy of Letters), and lives in New Delhi, India.
